Driver Profile - #77 Modified Chase Wilson

Laird Raceway and Rev It Up Racing put you "in the driver's seat" with the weekly driver's profiles every Monday, so you can get a closer look and get a better understanding of just who these drivers are and what "makes them tick."

Name: Chase Wilson
Age: 16
Hometown: Sault Ste Marie, ON
Division: Modified
Number: #77

Who is your mentor?
My mentor is definitely my dad he’s been there ever since the start with all of his racing knowledge and racing experience he has had. He has taught me everything I know, and it has made me so much more aware of the car and better as a driver.

With 16 year old Chase Wilson who jumped behind a steering wheel at the age of four years old in a quarter midget to begin his racing career state mind, this St Mary’s College grade 11 student will be more competitive in 2020 with losing out to for a chance to win a provincial championship with his high school hockey program due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Wilson had said that “our team was prepared and ready for a OFSAA Championship run this season in southern Ontario, so now it time to put concentration into the race car to be the best we can be in 2020”

With the competitive energy waiting for the 2020 racing season to start, Chase along with twin sister Berlyn, 14 year old brother Dawson and 6 year old sister Brystyl. The Wilson family is quite athletic with brother Dawson playing away from home the last season on a half in south western Ontario playing hockey and Brystyl who rides horses and keeps everyone on their toes.

Wilson said that “his mother LeeAnn and father George strongly support whatever I do through racing and especially about Papa Butch who does anything and everything he can for me to get the race car on the track with the best equipment.”

Where and when did you start racing?
I started racing when I was four years old in Lansing, Michigan in a quarter midget but hopped into a full body car when I was nine at Laird Raceway.

Hobbies and Interests
Besides race cars and hockey, I enjoy snow machining, hanging out with my buddies, going camping and I also spend a lot of time playing video games.

What was the biggest challenge in 2019 at Laird and how do you think you change that going to 2020?
The biggest challenge in 2019 was being a rookie to the division and having a brand new car that we had to work the bugs out of but once we got it to where it needed to be we definitely had ourselves a fast car

Is there anyone you would rather not race against?
Nobody specific, I enjoy racing with everyone I race against but when it comes to people who don’t respect others cars and equipment it can be not so fun to race that specific person

Who is a clean driver you really enjoy racing with?
I’ve always enjoyed racing against Dustin Jackson, we grew up together racing dirt bikes and banging handle bars side by side around a horse stable together but hopefully this racing season we can race side by side together a few times at least

Sponsors?
Flawless Roofing, Duty Free Sault Ste Marie, Sandro’s Restaurant, Union Cab, Sault Motors, Possami Construction, Floorman Flooring, John Giuliani Fishing Adventures, Epic Racewear, and H.R lash.

Your goals for 2020?
My goals for 2020 are to make as many races that we can and give it my best every single race. I feel like a lot of the pressure is on me this year now that we got the car where it needs to be and where we can be a 1st place competitor every night

What races you planning to run and where?
We are planning on mainly running Kinross’s full schedule and Laird Raceway when schedule allows us too and any other event we can find time to attend.

Pit Crew?
My father George Wilson, Jim Yardinoff, Papa Butch Wilson, Cory Furkey, and Sab Servant.

Can you give us some memories racing at Laird throughout the years and any moments standout?
I have so many memories at Laird this is the track I learned how to race at and won my first race. But there are so many memories I have there from watching my dad dominate and win almost every race putting on a show while starting at the back every night.

What can we expect from the #77 this coming season and Laird?
You can expect us to be very competitive and running up at the front trying to get that checked flag every night

Any Championships?
Unfortunately, we have never based our racing schedule around a championship we just do our best to make the races we can and if there a big money race you will probably see us there.
