2002 CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT LAIRD

In the Super Late Models Brent Palumbo had fast time and won both heats. In the feature Dennis Aho had the pole. At the green Aho took the lead then Todd Jackson worked by to take the lead and began to pull away when the caution waved on lap 7 when Terry McClelland lost control in turn 3. On the restart Jackson pulled away again when Rick Ellis and Dennis Varcoe got together in turn 3 to bring out the yellow. At the green Jackson continued his stranglehold on the race and went on to win with Palumbo, Tim Aho, Dennis Aho and Varcoe the top 5. Despite failing to finish the feature Terry McClelland took home the 2002 Super Late Model championship.

In the Super Stocks George Wilson had fast time with Kevin Oicle and Rod Bolduc winning the heats. In the feature Glen Irwin had the pole. At the green Dan Desjardins had a problem in turn 3 which brought out one of the tires parked there to bring out the caution. On the complete restart Bolduc pulled away while the two point leaders Wilson and Rob Sartini began to charge towards the front when Paul Seabrook spun out in turn 1 to bring out the caution. At the green Bolduc and Chris Furkey began to pull away from Wilson and Sartini as Sartini drove all the way up to the lead with on lap 13. Sartini went on to take the win with Bolduc, Wilson, Furkey and Terry McClelland the top 5. With his third place finish George Wilson took home the 2002 Super Stock championship.

In the Factory Stocks Jason Praysner won both of the A Heats and Dave Slingsby and Len Bibeau won the B Heats. In the feature Billy Kingston had the pole. At the green Marty Devon took the lead but Prasyner began to close in. On lap 3 Praysner drove by Devon to take the lead when Bill See drove off of turn 3 to bring out the caution. On the restart Praysner began to pull away from Rick Marriotti when on lap 7 Steve Kent got into the wall in turn 4. At the green Praysner and Marriotti began to pull away from the field as point leaders Slingsby and Parker Brockelbank battled it out for the third spot, which would decide the division championship. On lap 15 Brockelbank and Slingsby got together in turn 4 with Slingsby spinning around to bring out the caution. On the restart Praysner pulled away to take the win with Marriotti, Slingsby, Devon and Brockelbank the top 5. With his fifth place finish Parker Brockelbank took home the 2002 Factory Stock championship.

In the Pure Stocks Barry Glenn won both of the heats. In the feature Jerry Ross had the pole. At the green Carmen Cavalier took the lead with points leader Ray Golladay chasing him down. On lap 4 Golladay took the lead as second place in points Josh Ware chased him down. On lap 8 Ware took the lead and began to pull away from Golladay when the caution came out on lap 13 when Norm Miller and Jerry Ross got together to bring out the caution. On the restart Ware pulled away and went on to win with Glenn, Dan Shumbarger, Golladay and Cavalier the top 5. With his fourth place finish Ray Golladay took home the 2002 Pure Stock championship.

In the Stock 4’s Kevin Vaz and John Hamilton won the heats. In the feature Dan Dinsmore had the pole. At the green Rob Fascina pulled ahead but Hamilton drove by on the outside on lap 4 to take the lead. Vaz began to close in but it would be Hamilton with the win with Vaz, Fascina, Dinsmore and David Mortimore the top 5. Despite not running in the final night of racing Corey Diotte took home the 2002 Stock 4 championship.
