Our third year of racing at Laird International Raceway saw the Auto Value Super Sprints make their thunderous return. Even though the races were rained out for the scheduled date the Sprints made their runs on the following day.

No track records were set during the time trials this season, with all records from the 2000 season, with Kevin Newton still holding the record of 12.174 seconds, Dave Seabrook with 14.126, Jerry Artuso - 14.901 and Brent Palumbo with 16.253.

Terry McClelland unseated Rick Leonard as the Late Model champion. Terry had the championship wrapped up at the start of the feature on the final night of racing just by starting. The battle between Jerry Artuso and George Wilson, had all the race fans on the edge of their seats. When the feature was to start both Jerry and George were tied in points and the driver who finished ahead of the other would be crowned the Super Stock champion. At the end of the feature Jerry Artuso came out as the winner capturing his second straight year in the Super Stock Division. Jason Praysner, in his first year of racing took the Factory Stock championship edging out 3rd year driver Steve Kent by a slim nine points.

Fans also got to see the race veteran Donnie Varcoe Jr drive his infamous # 94 in the Late Model Division. Donnie took the season off from running the race track and decided that it was time to play. Donnie gave up his qualifying positions to and started from the back of the field for the Heat Races and Features until just past 1/2 way through the season. The drivers of the Late Model class decided that Donnie should start where he qualified.

David Archibald moved up from the Factory Stock Class to the Super Stock Class to finish a very respectable fifth place in points.
