As the 1999 race season has come to a close with the final race held on Saturday, September
11, the Division Champions were crowned.
Rick Leonard came out on top in the Super Late Model Dvision finishing 24 points ahead of Terry McClelland, giving Rick his first championship in the 10 years that he's been racing. Despite Terry McClelland's steady stream of finishing first in all races he could not catch Rick during the night's racing. Prior to the eveing, Rick had a commanding 30 point lead and all Rick had to do was start the Feature race giving him 12 points. That 12 points would have been enough to capture the Super Late Model Championship. In addition Rick was also crowned the track champion with the most points, 542, by all the drivers at Laird. In the Super Stock Class Bill Poitras completed the season 30 points ahead of Rob Sartini. Bill started two of the three races scheduled for the evening. Poitras had the points calculated on where he had to finish to ensure his winning of the championship. Factory Stock's Brent Palumbo had an overwhelming lead over second place Todd Jackson prior to race night that Brent was declared the champion before the races even began. |
